Help Required - Burton Hockey Club - Astro Turf Pitch Development Project‏

E-mail Print PDF

Dear All, With the ongoing project of fundraising towards Burton Hockey Clubs own Astro Turf pitch and facilities well under way, the sub-committee are looking for more specific 'hands-on' help and support from not only within our own Club members but also from further afield with other contacts that you may have.

I have been tasked with compiling a database of anyone that we would be able to contact / call upon to help us with specific elements of the project as it develops, at this initial stage we are keen to get a formulated project plan drawn up with a prospectus / brochure that we can use as a presentation tool for potential sponsors and supporters.

E-mail Print PDF

Dear Members, Vice-Presidents, Patrons and Club Supporters....

Another very successful season  of Fixtures has drawn to a close. Team performances and the amazing progress of our Academy can be witnessed on  the Web-site. The Peter Ellis Fund proudly marches on, Rocky's Thermometer was displayed in the Menu at The Award's Night Dinner. Many, many thanks to all our  Vice-Presidents and Patrons for their very generous Annual Mandates and Donations, the Gift Aid gives us an  extra  20 % ! The Olympic Raffle was well supported by Members' enthusiastic Selling efforts ! An excellent day-out to Leicester Tigers was also well supported and raised valuable Funds.

The Dinner was a great success raising a further £800, well done Karen and Committee. Many VPs and Patrons were in attendance.'Grace' by Bob Anderson (Star right back of the '72  Side) a highlight! Peter Dawson, Geoff Berry, Mike Brooker, Ken Stanyon, Mike Scott, Trevor Windle, Ian Morgan  and  not least Tony Collier, who has put so much work into Coaching for the Academy were all present and correct from the no longer  playing category! Peter Ellis was I am sure with us in Spirit! Our Campaign to attract Grant Aid and move forward to acquiring our own ASTROturf pitch and Clubhouse facility is under-way with Steve Morrison and an active sub-committee following all avenues of Opportunity, and key to it all the need to keep Rocky's 'THERMOMETER' moving 'UP' (Rocky Whetton is of course our very hard-working Treasurer).

Mixed Team go to the EH Mixed Plate Quarter Finals..(NEXT MATCH Shobnall 20th May 13:30pm.)

E-mail Print PDF

Congratulations go to the Mixed Team who won their EH Mixed Plate Round 4 match. In what must have been some of the worst playing conditions faced all year Burton braved the wind, the rain and the bitterly cold temperatures to overcome Streetly Mixed 4 - 1.

Streetly had only brought 4 ladies to the game so the home side were keen to get the game played and take full advantage of this. Strong gusts put the game in doubt but with both umpires and teams happy the game began. Michelle Kay stepped into sweep as Rhiann Wariner had called in injured just before the game, Jamie Cooper went to right back to give a man of the match performance in for Nick Lathbury who was playing for the county.

The game started quite positivtely for Burton, moving the ball well through the field and they made several good chances in front of goal, either the final shot was off target or the last ball was astray, Nicola Taylor missing a couple of clear chances in front of goal, on another day without a frosty gale in the face she'd have made the scoresheet. Streetly also had some lively midfielders and did pressure Burton at times, but Burton's defence were performing well and the extra player meant Burton always had the space advantage. Plus goalkeeper Martin Jarvis barking the orders keeping the backline tight.

It took 16 minutes for Burton to take the lead, the Streetly keeper felling striker Ben Elson at the top of the D, the subsequent penalty corner was coolly converted by Mark Northcott. Burton pushed on again and just before the end of the first half, Amy Palmer struck home to take the score to 2 - 0. Half time arrived and Burton knew if they could keep possesion and increase the quality of the passing, the game was theirs for the taking.
