Mens 1's V Atherstone
Burton 1s faced Atherstone in their 2nd game of the season. They were glad to have Nick Lathbury returning to the starting lineup, as he added the flair and security that had been missing in recent games. The game started fairly evenly, Burton tried to set traps and win possession in the opponents half, whilst trying to fend off Atherstone attacks down the baseline. Despite good defending, a slight lapse in concentration was capitalised by the away side, and they slipped it through to the back post to go 1-0 up. Half time was positive, and we went out playing as the better side for much of the first part of the second half. But unfortunately Atherstone got a lucky goal through a rebound off an initial save. Burton fought back and had a very strong spell, winning a string of short corners. One of which was flicked in by Nick Lathbury, making it 2-1. As the game went on Burton were fighting hard, Rhys had his weekly strop, and neither side could break through. Atherstone got one more at the end of the match after multiple efforts following a short corner. Final score 3-1. Despite the loss, it was definitely an improvement on the week before. Luke Dunne had the pleasure of finishing a dirty pint after the match consisting of lots of different spirits, to celebrate his 18th Birthday. MOTM - Lathers
